How does the NEP work at the undergraduate level? / How is the NEP implemented at the undergraduate level?

Is the 4-year B.Sc. (Hons.) Computer Science with Research degree under NEP considered equivalent to B.E./B.Tech for eligibility in government jobs or competitive exams?

The 4-year B.Sc. (Hons.) Computer Science with Research degree under NEP is not regarded as equivalent to a B.E./B.Tech, particularly for government recruitment purposes such as DRDO Scientist positions, where the eligibility criteria specifically require a B.E./B.Tech or an equivalent qualification.

NEP Multiple Entry and Multiple Exit Scheme (ME_ME) in the Undergradute Programme Related Quries

Can students get a certificate or degree after the 3rd year under NEP if needed for a job while still enrolled in the 4th year?

Student needs to take an exit from the fourth year to get the required certificate or degree. For more details, please refer to University Notification No. Acad.I/ME-ME/UG/2025/411 Dated 29.07.2025

If students start the 4th year but leave midway after 2–3 months, can they still exit with a 3-year degree?

If a student discontinues the programme in between an academic session rather than at the end of the even semesters, he/she shall be awarded the relevant qualification achieved so far by the student. Academic Project/Dissertation/Entrepreneurship

If a student takes an Academic Project, will the degree be titled B.Sc. (Hons.) Mathematics with Research?

If you are doing a four-year Bachelor’s in a UG single Core discipline programme, with an academic project/dissertation in your major subject, you will be awarded Hons degree with research. However, if you are doing a four-year bachelor’s in a UG Multidisciplinary programme with a project/dissertation in your major subject, you will be awarded an Hons degree only.

What happens to dissertation/academic project/entrepreneurship if students consistently miss 7th-semester classes?

The students have to submit a monthly progress report which is possible only if the student attends the classes and meets the supervisor regulrarly.

Can students who studied Research Methodology in Minor do a dissertation in Major, and vice versa?

No

For the Entrepreneurship option, what are the eligibility criteria for the industrialist supervisor?

The criteria for the industrialist will be decided by the respective college.

4th Year Programme Honors

Can students enrolled in UG Multidisciplinary courses who wish to pursue a 4th-year Major/Minor, take an additional Discipline-Specific Elective (DSE) to complete the required credits if they have not completed the mendatory numbers of DSEs by the end of Year 3? Additionally, should this extra DSE be taken in Semester 7 or can it be from previous semesters?

You may take the additional DSE as an extra credit course to fulfill the mandatory credit requirements for both the Major and Minor streams. This extra DSE can be chosen from the current semester or any previous semesters, as applicable.

For a student persuing an Honours degree in a field of UG Multidisciplinary Program, Is it compulsory to opt for a Major subject in the 4th year?

A student persuing an Honours degree in a field of UG Multidisciplinary Program, has to choose, in the 4th year, only one of the descipline as Major.

For 4th-year B.Sc. (Programme) students opting for the SBC track, from which pool should SBC papers be selected? Can existing SEC papers be used, or must they be from the 1st-year PG programme as per the notification?

This is with reference to your query regarding the implementation of the Skill-Based Course (SBC) as mentioned in Notification No. CNC-II/093/1/EC-1275/25/09 (ii) dated 29.07.2025.

As per the notification, SBC has been introduced as an additional track in lieu of Dissertation/Academic Project/Entrepreneurship in the 4th year (Sem VII and VIII) of the B.Sc. (Programme). For the selection of SBC papers, the following points may be noted:

Pool of Papers: SBC papers are to be drawn from the approved pool of papers for the 1st year of PG Programmes, as mentioned in the notification. You may therefore plan the curriculum accordingly.

Minor Degree in UG Programme

Can SEC/VAC credits be counted toward a degree in the Minor discipline?

1. A student persuing a UG Single Core Discipline Program, can Minor in another discipline, if he/she earns 28 credits by doing 7 GEs of 4 credits each. 2. A student persuing a UG Multidisciplinary Program, can Minor in another discipline, if he/she earns 28 credits by doing 6 DSCs and 1 DSE of 4 credits each.

How should an undergraduate student in a Multidisciplinary Program choose their Discipline-Specific Elective (DSE) papers in the 2nd and 3rd years?

Undergraduate students enrolled in a Multidisciplinary Program may study up to four DSEs during the 2nd and 3rd years. It is recommended that they select three DSEs from their Major discipline and one DSE from their Minor discipline.

If students do a dissertation in their Minor, is Research Methodology studied in Major or Minor?

The students are encouraged to do a Dissertation in their Major hence they are required to do Research Methodolog in thier Major subject.

If a student is pursuing MA or MSc in the Minor subject after 4th year, what is the course duration?

For a student pursuing MA or MSc in the Minor subject after 4th year, the duration of MA or MSc will be for 2 years. 

With GE papers no longer mandatory under UGCF-2022, does this mean the 100, 200, and 300 levels for GE papers have also been removed? Further, can colleges now offer any GE paper from the odd-semester pool in any year, or must they still follow the earlier level-wise (100/200/300) segregation?

If a student has already taken Research Methodology as a DSE in their Major Descipline (Semester VI), can they opt for it again in Minor Descipline (Semester VII), and will it impact their Major or Minor?

Since the Research Methodology papers have over 30% similarity, students must instead choose a different DSE in order to earn credits.

Can a student in the 4th track of the UG Multidisciplinary Program choose DSEs and a Skill-Based Course (SBC) from their Minor discipline?

Students pursuing the 4th track of the UG Multidisciplinary Program, in the 7th and 8th semesters are required to take both DSEs and the SBC, only in their Major discipline.

If I choose DSE + SBC instead of a dissertation, do I still need to complete the Research Methodology paper to earn a Major?

It will be always beneficial to complete Research Methodology Courses either in VI or VII sem if a student wishes to continue 4 year.

If a student completes 7 GEs in the Minor discipline and also undertakes the dissertation in the same Minor discipline, will he/she be eligible for a 1-year Master’s?

If a student completes 7 GEs in the Minor discipline and also undertakes the dissertation in the same Minor discipline, he/she will not be eligible for a 1-year Master’s.

Can I switch to another college/university using my earned credits?

Yes, you can take courses in different colleges.

Are there ways to do credit based internships?

Yes, if you can present the certificates and attendance proofs.
